Pampore residents accuse Municipality for failing to clear garbage from collection spots

PAMPORE: Residents of Saffron town Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have accused the Municipal Committee Pampore for failing to lift garbage from last many days.
They said that the heaps of garbage could be seen near Government Middle School Namblabal, near Girls Higher Secondary School Namlabal and Kadlabal along Srinagar-Jammu national highway roadside.
Municipal Committee Pampore is dumping garbage in various public places including entrance of School gates and along old national highway and near R&B office Frestabal due to which students, teachers and local residents as well as the commuters have to suffer.

Mohammad Tahir, a doctoral scholar, told Kashmir Reader that garbage is piling up on various collection points from the last many days.
” A collection point has been established near the gate of a government middle school in Namblabal, the stink is creating problems for students and teachers,” he said, adding that mostly students from poor families go to the school.
He said that they also have the right to learn in a neat and clean environment.
He said that employees of Municipal Committee Pampore have not lifted the garbage from these collection points due to reasons best known to them.
He appealed to authorities for lifting the garbage from these collection points as soon as possible.
He also told Kashmir Reader that authorities resolved issues concerning construction of a new dumping site.
Principal Government Girls Higher Secondary School Pampore Nazir Ahmad Khan told Kashmir Reader that a collection point has been established near the gate of their school.
He said around 700 students are enrolled in the school, which is a model school in the entire town.
He said that the stink of the garbage reaches into the classrooms.
He appealed to civil society members and Auqaf members to intervene in the matter.
When Kashmir Reader this issue was brought into the notice of Tehsildar Pampore, Zubair Ahmad Bhat (KAS), he said that he took up the matter with Municipal Committee Pampore and gave them an ultimatum to lift the garbage by tomorrow.
The Tehsildar said that he will hold a review meeting with Municipal Committee Pampore officials tomorrow.
He said various issues will be discussed threadbare.
