AWANTIPORA: Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary chaired a emergency meeting regarding shortage of irrigational water with officials of various departments of Pulwama and Anantnag districts at Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The meeting was held to discuss the hardships faced by the farmers in Awantipora, Pampore Kakapora and other areas of the Pulwama district due to shortage of water for Agricultural purposes.
The meeting was held in the office chamber of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Awantipora and was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora Zaffar Husson Shawl, Superintendent Engineers including Hydraulics Anantnag, Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers Irrigation ,Civil, Mechanical, Flood Control departments of Anantnag, Pulwama, Awantipora, Tral and Kakapora, Chief Agriculture officer Pulwama, Chief Horticulture Officer Pulwama, all concerned Tehsildars, besides other concerned officers, officials told Kashmir Reader.
During the meeting a number of issues were discussed with regard to the shortage of irrigation on paddy fields in various areas of the Pulwama district.
” The meeting was regarding irrigational related crisis, a need is to have a long term strategy to deal with crisis,” ADC Awantipora Zaffar Husson Shawl told Kashmir Reader, adding that Deputy Commissioner Pulwama directed them to augment water pumps so that they can be used in such situations.
He told Kashmir Reader that DC Pulwama also directed concerned authorities of the agriculture department for provide seeds for alternative crops like maize and pulses to the farmers.
He also said DC Pulwama told concerned authorities of the irrigation department for improving various water schemes.
He also said that directions were passed to the Irrigation department to provide immediate relief to the general public and come up with a concrete plan for restoration of Irrigation supply in the district, so that farmers may not suffer more.
