Wayward brown bear lands in Bandipora village, caught

Bandipora: An unusual visitor landed in Shahgund village, with locals having to deal with a wayward brown bear that had entered their area a few days back, but was Thursday caught after a gruelling chase by the wildlife officials, much to the relief of the locals.
While locals of the area said that they have never seen a brown bear in the area, the forest officials too are baffled over how this beast landed in the area.
An official of the wildlife department said that teams comprising several men were deployed on Thursday and successfully managed to catch the caught animal that had been roaming in the area for four three days.
About four darts were shot to sedate the animal before moving it to a safe location.
Nazir Ahmad, an officer of the Wildlife department said that the department called an expert team to avoid any untoward incident.
According to him it is a rare case as brown bears don’t venture into human habitations and mostly black bears venture to human habitations .
He added that it was a giant bear and it gave them a tough time as we lost track of it in a huge area it was roaming, but finally managed to track it down.
An official said that the heavy disturbances to the wildlife habitations has affected the food and shelter of wild animals which according him forces them to roam in human habitations.
He added that the appearance of brown bears in human habitation is an alarming situation, and both people and the government must take steps to save forests and wildlife habitations.
