10 heavy machines involved in illegal mining seized during raids in Wuyan Pampore

PAMPORE: The Revenue department Pampore along with Geology and Mining department Pulwama seized 10 machines during midnight raid in Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district for illegal mining of stones.
Tehsildar Pampore Zubair Ahmad Bhat and District Mineral Officer Pulwama Hilal Ahmad along with a team raided a stone quarry in Wuyan area of Pampore Tehsil and seized 10 machines used for illegal mining.
The raid was carried out on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, officials told Kashmir Reader.
Talking to Kashmir Reader at Tehsil office Tehsildar Pampore Zubair Ahmad Bhat said that they received information about illegal extraction of minerals at a quarry in Wuyan area.
” A team was constituted with DMO Pulwama and a raid was carried out during which 10 machines were seized,” he said, adding that 2 machines were lifted to Tehsil office Pampore.
” Other machines will also be transported to the Tehsil office and action as per relevant acts of Geology and Mining will be taken against them,” he said.
He added that a heavy fine will also be levied against them.
The Tehsildar Pampore Zubair Ahmad Bhat warned that strict action will be taken against those persons involved in illegal extraction of sand, boulders, stones or soil.
He said that illegal extraction of any kind will not be tolerated.
He told Kashmir Reader that concerned authorities will support people seeking legal ways for extraction of minerals and guide them in getting permission.
District Mineral Officer Pulwama , Hilal Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that it is their responsibility to coordinate with other departments to check unscientific mining of minerals.
” It was in this context that a strategy was worked out with Tehsil office Pampore after inputs of illegal mining at Wuyan,” he said, adding that a raid was carried out under the supervision of Tehsildar Pampore Zubair Ahmad Bhat in late evening during which 10 machines were found nvolved in illegal mining and were seized on the spot.
” Action as warranted under new provisions of the mineral act will be taken against them,” he said.
He told Kashmir Reader that strict action will be taken against offenders and FIRs will be registered against serial offenders.
He warned people to stay from illegal mining or face severe consequences.
