Srinagar: A One-Day Quiz Competition on the “Noble Life (Seerah) of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)” was organized by Govt. Degree College Sogam (Lolab) Kupwara .The Quiz was jointly organized by the Departments of Islamic Studies and English in collaboration with Debates and Seminar Committee (D&SC) of the College.
The Convener of the Quiz was Dr Tauseef Ahmad Parray (AP, Islamic Studies; Convener, D&SC) and Coordinator was Prof. Ishfaq Hussain Bhat (AP, English; Member, D&SC).
The Event started with Recitation of the Quranic verses followed by the Naat by Iqra Mushtaq and Raziya Bashir, respectively.
In his Welcome Address, the worthy Principal and Patron of the event, highlighted the importance of organizing programs of this type so that to create awareness among the students and to bring forth their talent.
The Quiz was moderated by Prof. Ishfaq Hussain Bhat and was supported by Prof. Sajad Ahmad (AP, English; Co-Convener, D&SC).
In this Quiz, six (6) teams of 5 members each of the College participated. Among these four (4) consisted of female students—and were named as Hz. Khadijah (RA), Hz. Ayesha (RA), Hz. Fatima (RA) and Hz. Hafsa (RA)—and two (2) of male students, namely Hz. Abu Bakr (RA) and Hz. Umar (RA).
Prof(s) Qaiser Bashir (AP, EVS), Javaid Hassain (AP, Urdu) and Mohd. Rafi (AP, Economics) acted as the Scorers while as Prof. Mehbooba Bano (Asso. Prof., Political Science) and Dr Mushtaq Ahmad (AP, Kashmiri) acted as the jury members for the Quiz.
In total, each team was asked eleven (11) questions of ten (10) points each in three (3) Rounds. The teams who performed well and bagged Winner and Runner-Up positions were Team Hz. Abu Bakr (RA) and Hz. Hafsa (RA). The participants of the Winner team included Peer Jafar, Danish Bashir, Shafaqat Amin (all from 5th Sem) Saqib Sarwar and Danish Fayaz Tantry (2nd and 3rd Sem respectively) and the participants of the Runner-Up team included Iqra Mushtaq, Adfar Farooq, Nahida Bashir, Ruqaya Mushtaq and Sehrish Lone (all from 3rd Sem).
At the end of the Quiz, all the participants were given medals and the Winner and Runner-Up teams with given Mementos, Cash Prizes of Rs 1250/- and 750/- respectively, and other gifts as well.
Besides the participants, the event was attended by over 80 students including NSS volunteers, and the staff members.
