Mining of loose materials resumes in Zewan, Athwajan

PAMPORE: Mining of loose materials resumed on Wednesday at Zeewan Payeen, Zewan Bala and Athwajan quarries with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, DDC member Er Ajaz Hussain flagging off few truckloads of the loose material on Wednesday
The local residents and quarry workers were jubilant after resuming mining activity.
They thanked Aijaz and even raised slogans in his favour.
“The mining from these sites was halted in 2017 because of government ban,” a local labourer told Kashmir Reader, adding that the permission was granted due to strenuous efforts of Aijaz.
He said that Er Aijaz Hussain has struggled a lot in lifting the ban and that they appreciate his sincere efforts.
Talking to Kashmir Reader at Zewan Er Aijaz Hussain said that a formal permission was handed over to quarry labourers at Athwajan, Zewan Payeen and Zewan Bala for mining loose material.
“The people suffered for the past four years,” he said, adding that he congratulates Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, DMO Srinagar and concerned Commissioner Secretary for allowing the labourers to mine loose materials.
He added that he hopes the government will further streamline mining operations in Kashmir.
“I request the government to grant them proper permission for mining,” he said.
He added that people have heaved a sigh of relief with conditional permission of mining.
“The vehicle owners who earn their livelihood from mining have taken loans from banks and were doing no business, permission for mining loose materials, I request the government for proper permission for full mining so that development picks up pace,” he said.
