Police organises Drug de-addiction Seminar in Pulwama, Budgam

Srinagar: In order to aware the general public about the ill-effects of drug addiction, Police in collaboration with The Kashmir Pulse (An online news portal) organised a drug de-addiction seminar under the theme of ‘Drug addiction & why it is time to act’ at Town Hall Pulwama.
The seminar was attended by DySP Hqrs Pulwama Shri Showkat Rafiq-JKPS, SHO PS Pulwama, DAK President Mohammad Yousuf Tak, State Taxation Officer besides, students of various educational institutions and various experts also participated in the programme.
On the occasion, DySP Hqrs Pulwama delivered a detailed speech about the menace of drugs, sources, causes, consequences and the role of parents, civil society, teachers, Police, Health Department and other stakeholders. He said that the issue of drug abuse is a challenge before the country. It is the duty of all stakeholders to join in creating awareness about the illegal use of drugs and urgent measures need to be taken to prevent this menace. He appreciated the participants for being part of the event and said the seminar on drug de-addiction will prove to be useful in the long run. He also appealed to the participants to cooperate with the Police in identifying drug addicts in their localities so that they can be counselled in better ways.
He also sought the cooperation of people in eradicating the social evils prevailing in society, particularly the menace of drugs. He further said that to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, public cooperation is necessary and Police is always available to help those who are victims of this addiction and is ready to make all possible efforts to help and rehabilitate the affected persons.
Besides, various experts/doctors delivered special lectures on the topic and highlighted their experience in treating drug addicts.
Dr Yousuf Tak spoke at length about the ill effects of drug use and certain cases of extreme drug cases and methods to treat them. He asked the participants to be vigilant and act against the menace at their own level and not look at police, doctors and NGOs to save them.
The members of civil society also spoke and highlighted the causes and consequences of drug abuse and assured their possible support and cooperation for a drug-addiction free environment.
Also Police in Budgam have organised a drug de-addiction seminar at IPTS Heights School Khansahib.
The chief guest on the occasion was SSP Budgam Shri Tahir Saleem-JKPS accompanied by SDPO Khansahib and SHO Police Station Khansahib. The main aim of the seminar was to disseminate awareness regarding drug de-addiction among the students and other people.
On the occasion, SSP Budgam sensitized the students about the ill effects of drug abuse and advised students to be part of social awakening process regarding drug abuse. He highlighted the importance of drug free society and ill effects of this menace on youth & society at large. He advised parents to keep a watch on the activities and behaviour of their children and be conscious towards them. He also advised those affected to avail the facility of drug de-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre DPL Budgam.
Besides, Principal IPTS Heights School Khansahib and other officials also spoke about the ill effects of drugs and its remedies. They highlighted the causes and consequences of drug abuse and assured their possible support and cooperation for a drug-addiction free environment.
Moreover, on the occasion students also spoke about the menace of drugs and its ill effects. They also spoke about preventive measures and hailed the role of J&K Police in the prevention of drug addiction.
At the end of the event, prizes were distributed among the students who bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions as well as to other participants.
