Seven days training programme on ‘Scientific Beekeeping’ starts at FoA Wadura

SRINAGAR: A seven days training programme on “Scientific Beekeeping” under National Beekeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) Sponsored by National Bee Board Organised by Research and Training Center Pollinators,Pollinizers, and Pollination Management (RTCPPM) SKUAST Kashmir in Collaboration with Division of Entomology, FoA, Wadura Sopore.
In the training programme, unemployed youth from district Kupwara and Baramulla have been registered. The training is intended at development of skill on different aspects of beekeeping. The trainees shall be given practical knowledge about scientific rearing techniques of honey bees, their seasonal management, queen rearing techniques, management of their pests and diseases, swarm management and principles and practices of migration and harvesting/processing and marketing of honey, opportunities, threats and challenges in beekeeping. The trainees shall be further given knowhow about the ecosystem services of bees and their role in pollination particularly of horticultural crops.
The training programme was inaugurated by Dean FoA Wadura Skuast-K Dr Raihana Habib Kanth who was the chief Guest of the occasion. She acknowledged that the youth have sufficient potential and they should utilize this potential for self-sustenance. She further promised them to impart more advanced trainings on beekeeping in future, On the occasion Prof. M. A. Mantoo Head Division of Entomology acknowledged that the youth can involve themselves in setting up beekeeping on a cluster basis.
He assured trainees to provide all the technical support from FoA, Wadura. Dr Imtiyaz Ah Lone Professor Division of Horticulture,Sajad Ahmad Ganie Course Director ,heads of Divisions/Professors were also present to grace the occasion.
The guests and trainees were formally welcomed by Dr. Sajad Ahmad Ganie ,Course Director and Principal Investigator Of NBHM Project.
