Srinagar: Police in collaboration with Youth Development & Rehabilitation Centre held a day-long Drug De-addiction-cum-Awareness Programme on illegal drug-use and peddling at Khanmoh in West Zone of City Srinagar.
SP West Zone Srinagar Tahir Gillani-JKPS was chief guest on the occasion. SDPO Panthachowk, SHO PS Panthachowk besides, a team of doctors including Dr Muzzafar from Police Rehabilitation Centre was also present on the occasion.
At the commencement of the programme, the general public was addressed by the Chief Guest regarding the prevention of drug menace and rehabilitation of those involved in drug use. During his speech, SP West implored upon the stakeholders in the society to come forward in helping police to create awareness about the illegal use of drugs and the measures thereof to prevent this menace.
Dr Muzzafar during his address thoroughly briefed the public about the affect of drugs on the health and behaviour of drug addicts. The awareness programme was followed by the day-long camp established at Gousia Public School Khanmoh, where a team of doctors from Police Rehabilitation Centre treated volunteers who have been victims of this abuse.
General public especially Welfare Committee Khanmoh extended wholehearted cooperation. People in large numbers attended the Drug De-addiction Centre and highly appreciated the role of the police in taking strong action against drug peddlers in the area.
