TRAL: Civil Society members from Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have appealed to authorities for taking action against persons who commit atrocities with animals.
The demand came after a horse abandoned by its owner died on a road in main town Tral on Monday morning.
A picture and video of a dead horse surrounded by other abandoned horses generated sharp criticism from people against the owners.
It has been observed that some persons who own horses and donkeys abandon them during winters after taking work from them in summers.
Chairman Citizens Council Tral, Farooq Ahmad Trali, told Kashmir Reader that some people exploit their animals by using them for ferrying load during summers.
” It is unfortunate that for winters, these animals like horses and donkeys are abandoned and left to fend for themselves,” Farooq said, adding that these stray cattle usually die of chilling cold on roads.
He said that such owners should be identified and authorities should punish them.
” The authorities should levy a fine on owners who abandon their cattle during winters,” he said.
He also demanded that the department of animal husbandry should keep a vigil on such persons who abandon their cattle.
