GDC Kalakote celebrated National Girl Child Day

Srinagar: The NSS unit of GDC Kalakote organized an online poster making competition to create awareness about Beti Bachao Beti PadhaoAbhiyan.
The event was organised under the guidance of Dr.Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the college. The aim of the competition was to spread awareness among the masses on the topic ‘Save Girl Child’.
Every year on January 24, India observes National Girl Child Day and the main aim to celebrate this day is to create awareness about the rights of the girl child, the importance of girl education, the health of girl child and difficulties they face such as female infanticide, gender inequality, and physical abuse.
The theme was aligned with the theme of the United Nations’ ‘My voice, Our equal future, aiming at the progress of the girl child, the foundation of which starts with education. The participation was open to all the students of the college. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta appreciated the students for participating in the competition and said;” Boys and girls should be treated equally by the parents and the society”. He also stressed upon the contribution being made by girls in every field whether sports, literature, science, education etc. Assistant professor Priyanka Kamari, NSS Programme Officer coordinated the event. She encouraged the students to compete with zest and also directed effort towards empowering girl child and making them ready to face the challenges in future. Maximum students participated online in this competition. Students not only presented their posters but also shared their views on theme. Participants were judged on the basis of relevance, originality, artistic composition and creativity.
The Winner of the poster making competition on ‘Save Girl Child’ was Manvi Sharma. The event was successful in its aim to celebrate the girl child day and spread the message across of the importance of treating girl fairly with divinity and equality and drive efforts that fulfill their rights not just benevolently for them but in partnership with them.
