Srinagar: Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the illustrious son of the Handoo family, Dr Muhammad Iqbal Handoo, son of late Khawaja Ghulam Mustafa Handoo of Narwara Srinagar
In its condolence statement, the Anjuman while mentioning the close ties and religious affiliations of the Handoo family with the Mirwaiz family said, “Dr Muhammad Iqbal Handoo not only had very close relations and association with Shaheed-e-Millat (RA) but also treated the present Mirwaiz with utmost compassion, love and devotion.
The Anjuman said the demise was a great loss not only to the Handoo family but also to the entire Kashmiri society. Dr Iqbal Handoo was not only a pioneer in religious, educational, welfare and social work but he also used to play a key role in arranging special sermons of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir on the occasion of Ashura, the 10th Muharram at Alam Sb Narwara
The Anjuman on behalf of the organisation and its incarcerated Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, paid rich tributes to Dr Muhammad Iqbal Handoo for his immense services and expressed condolence and solidarity with the bereaved family especially the deceased’s brothers Mushtaq Ahmad Handoo, Manzoor Ahmad Handoo, Nazir Ahmad Handoo, Zafar Ahmad Handoo, Shabir Ahmad Handoo, and his nephew Haris Ahmad Handoo besides praying for Jannat-ul-Firdous to the departed soul.
Despite his wish, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir could not attend the funeral prayer of the deceased due to continuous detention, while a large number of people from all over the area offered funeral prayers under the leadership of Imam of Jama Masjid Srinagar Mufti Ghulam Rasool Samoon. Dr Muhammad Iqbal Handoo was later buried in his ancestral graveyard
The congregational Fateha prayers of the deceased will be held on January 22, 2022 at 11:00 am at their ancestral graveyard at Narwara Srinagar adjacent to the Primary Health Centre.
