Govt teachers circumvent ban, teach at coaching centers in Shopian, allege unemployed educated youth

Edu official assures action against any violation

 

Shopian: Though there is a blanket ban on government teachers running or teaching at private coaching centres, the rules are being openly flouted in south Kashmir’s Shopian.
The education department has clearly directed heads of institutions and the concerned education officers that none of their teaching staff are involved in private coaching centres.
But unemployed educated youth from Shopian allege that almost all the lecturers in the district are violating the order by teaching at private coaching centres. They said that at places even assistant professors are running the education centres.
Bilal Ahmad, one of such educated unemployed youth allege an organised nexus between employees of the education department and coaching centre owners, who are government employees. “It is painful to see a teacher, who is a nation builder, getting involved in such activities,” he said.
Another youth said that why government teachers and lecturers aren’t satisfied with the handsome government salary. “If they aren’t satisfied with their salaries, they should leave that space and dedicate themselves to the private sector,” he said.
Chief education officer Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that if anyone has any such case, he or she should contact his office. He assured action in such cases.
When asked if it is being alleged that some of the employees of the education department are in nexus with coaching centre owners, he said to tell them to bring those names as well. “We will not tolerate if any government teacher or lecturer is found involved in private coaching. Action will be taken against them,” he said.
