World Soil Day: Celebrations held at KVK Pulwama, soil cards distributed

Pulwama: World Soil health Day was Celebrated at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)/ Extension Training Centre Malangpora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday.
The programme was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)/ Extension Training Centre Malangpora and was inaugurated by Director Extension SKUST-K Dr Dil Mohammad Maqdoomi who was the chief guest on the occasion.
On the occasion, Professor Dr Masrat Shafi, Scientists of KVK Pulwama and number of progressive farmers were present.

Soil health cards were distributed among the farmers by Chief guest and other officials on the occasion, officials told Kashmir Reader.
“This day is observed as world soil health day, it has been notice soil is losing its beauty and soil pollution is increasing and soil health is being disturbed,” Director extension, Dil Mohammad Maqdoomi told media, adding that when soil is healthy, fertility and contains various nutrients like boron, Magnese, Calcium and other minerals in proper amounts, the nutrients are transferred to animals via various plant products.
” if the soil remains weak less nutrients will be passed on to animals,” he said, adding that a change in food chain will impact the eco system.
He said that the message of the day was to check increasing salinity of soil.
He said that a PH value of the soil needs to be maintained.
He added that a soil health card was issued which is available in English and Urdu.
“Different tests that need to be taken for the soil health have been explained in it and if farmers need further assistance they can contact KVK in Pulwama,” he said.
