KVK Bandipora celebrates day

BANDIPORA: World Soil Day is commemorated to raise awareness about the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the long-term management of soil resources. The Day was celebrated by the Kendra on 5th of December 2021 at the main hall of KVK in which 58 farmers and 14 students participated. On the occasion Director Extension SKUAST Kashmir, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi said that soil resources are essential for humankind’s well-being and the sustainability of life on Earth and despite being very well aware of this fact, human beings threaten soil and soil resources through their unsustainable activities. Degradation of soil affects the production of food, leading to hunger and malnutrition. Dr Tariq Sultan, Scientist KVK Bandipora stressed on the need to conserve soil and prevent its degradation. He also gave a detailed presentation on soil health and fertility management. Dr. Hilal A Malik, Scientist while speaking on the occasion highlighted the need to aware people about importance of soil for crop production and human survival. During the event few progressive farmers also shared their experiences.
