Labourers at AIMS site Awantipora protest against disengagement

Awantipora: Scores of Labourers working on AIIMS site at Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district held a protest demonstration against the construction company on Wednesday.
The protesters raised slogans Mazdoor Ikta Zindabad Aur Zulm Karna Band Karo.
The labourers locals and non locals were angry with their disengagement by the company for the winter season.
They were demanding continuation of labour for the winter season.
Shahbaz Ahmad, who worked as electrician at AIIMS construction site, said that due to winter season NCC Construction Company at AIIMS site Awantipora stopped further construction work.
“ We were not allowed to sign the attendance register today and were asked to go home, “ he said, adding that if they worked on the project for the past nine months where would they seek labour during winter.
He said that this is against labour law which guaranties provision of labour.
The protesting labourers said that they were paid wages as per norms and they were allowed to work.
They said that the company officials turned a deaf ear to their pleas.
The labourers appealed to Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir UT to intervene in the matter.
Aijaz Batla, Manager, Administration and Liaison NCC company told media that four winter months construction was halted in JK and that the company has transferred staff from here.
He said that the project is under CPWD and they prepare a register as per minimum wages act.
