Run for Unity: To celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas; Police organizes ‘Kashmir Half Marathon’

Srinagar: As a part Azadi ka Amrit Mahaotsav celebrating 75 years of Independence, the Jammu and Kashmir Police organised Run for Unity “Kashmir Half Marathon” to celebrate the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. The people of all walks particularly the students and youth joined the celebration.
Earlier, in the morning ADGP SJM Gillani, flanked by other senior officers flagged off the run for various categories. Hundreds of people from all walks of life including students, youth and children had lined up at Lake View Police Golf Course on famous Dal banks to participate in the marathon.
The Director General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh who was the Chief Guest at the impressive prize distribution ceremony held at Police Golf Course distributed cash prizes and trophies among the winners of different events.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, DIG CKR Sujit Kumar, SSP Srinagar Sandeep Choudhary, Commandants of Armed/IRP Battalions and other gazetted officers of APHQ & Kashmir Zone attended the flag off ceremony and prize distribution ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is regularly organising various sports events for the people of different age groups especially youth which included recently held Jash-ne-Dal and Cycle Race and other events being organised in different districts across Jammu and Kashmir.
He complimented J&K Armed Police for organising today’s event in which more than 700 people of different age groups participated. He congratulated all the winners, participants for taking part in the programme and making it successful. He said that today National Unity Day is being celebrated across the country wherein all countrymen take pledge for strengthening the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
The DGP said that the situation is peaceful here and the people of Jammu and Kashmir have always supported the peaceful atmosphere. He said that there have been some incidents to disturb the peace which have been condemned by a large number of people. He said that the participation in today’s event by hundreds of people, especially children, signifies that people here want a peaceful atmosphere. The people of J&K want development, progress and they don’t support any kind of terror, he added.
Sending a message to the misguided youth, the DGP advised them to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream for the peace, development and progress of the nation. The DGP reiterated the message of the Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah who during his recent visit to J&K said that youth & children of J&K should hold a book and pen and not weapons in their hands which will help in developing the society and will make their parents proud.
The winners of different events were honoured with cash prizes and trophies by DGP, J&K and other officers.
21 KMs Half Marathon Men: Muneer Ahmad Dar of Srinagar got 1st position and was presented a cash prize of Rs.50,000/-, Nishu Kumar of Amritsar got 2nd position and was presented a cash prize of Rs.35,000/-, Sayed Gulbadin of Ganderbal got 3rd position and was given cash prize of Rs.25,000.
21 KMs Half Marathon Professional Athletes: Hans Raj of Kathua got 1st position and was presented a cash prize of Rs. 30,000/-, Balwinder Singh of Jammu got 2nd position and was presented with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/-, Tahir Aziz Malik of Anantnag got 3rd position and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/- .
10 KM of Road Race for boys above 14 years: Mushtaq Ahmad of Anantnag who secured first position was awarded with cash prize of Rs.35,000/-, Aran Chandel of Udhampur got 2nd prize with Rs.25,000/-, Sahil Kumar of Udhampur got 3rd prize with Rs.20,000/-.
10 KM of Road Race for girls above 14 years age: Sara Naqash of Srinagar who secured first position was awarded with cash prize of Rs.35,000/-, Zoobiya Tariq of Srinagar got 2nd prize with Rs.25,000/-, and Insha Wadoo of Srinagar got 3rd prize with Rs.20,000/-,
5 KM Sub Junior boys under 14 years: Basit Abbas won 1st position and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/-, Arfat Bashir 2nd position won a prize of Rs. 15,000/-, Asif Rashid won 3rd place for Rs. 10,000/, Yasir Furqaan got 4th place and won Rs. 5,000/-, Jehangir Ahmad 5th place Rs. 3,000/-, Rs 2,000/ each has been awarded to Majid Ahad, Aqib Ahmed Gojri, Aiyaan Yaqoob, Manatpreet Singh, and Hashim-ul-Nabi for securing 6th , 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th positions respectively.
4 KM Sub Junior girls under 14 years: Afrooza Jan won 1st position and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/-, Tarhum Soliha 2nd position won prize of Rs. 15,000/-, Nabila Khan won 3rd place for Rs. 10,000/, Snowber Manzoor got 4th place and won Rs. 5,000/-, Adeeba Gulzar 5th place Rs. 3,000/-, Rupees 2,000/ each has been awarded to Farah Ahad, Sameenah Sana, Asmat Jan, Bintal Huda, and Safiya Gul for securing 6th , 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th positions respectively.
2 KMs for specially challenged boys: Makhan Lal Sharma won 1st prize of Rs. 15,000/-, Rahil Ahmad won 2nd prize of 10,000/-, Irshad Ahmad won 3rd prize of Rs. 6,000/-, Irfan Ahmad won 4th prize of Rs. 5,000/- and Tawheed Hamid won 5th prize of Rs. 3,000/-. In the same category for girls Sadiya won 1st prize of Rs. 15,000/-, Syed Qaasirah won 2nd prize of Rs. 10,000/-, Atiqa Manzoor won 3rd prize of Rs. 6,000/-, Zainab Hassan won 4th prize of Rs. 5,000/-, and Sahreen Ashiq won 5th prize of Rs. 3,000/-.
And in the open for all category 2 KMs “Run for Fun” winners Firdous Ah Khan, Noora, Arham Khan and Qaifa Furqaan were presented consolation prizes.
