GMC B’la organizes awareness programme on ‘Breast Cancer’

Slogan of ‘Know Cancer, for No Cancer’ Observed during the Event

BARAMULLA: The Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla today organised a daylong awareness program on Breast Cancer
During the programme, a diverse audience representing different segments of the community viz doctors, nurses, medical students, Asha workers, among other concerned functionaries participated.
The golden slogan of the awareness program was fixed as ‘Know Cancer, for No Cancer’ wherein an array of lectures was delivered by the prominent resource persons. The experts threw light on different aspects of breast cancer which is the most common cancer in females and is one of the most important public health problems in the world.
On the occasion, renowned oncologist Dr Shad Saleem, who was an invited speaker spoke about the importance of early detection of breast cancer.
Professor Mohammed Maqbool, head of the department of Radiation oncology spoke about the scenario of brest cancer in Kashmir and highlighted the importance of awareness programmes for all sectors of society and the need of taking these awareness programmes to all the segments of society from top-shoot to the grassroot level.
Meanwhile, Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Ruby Reshi deliberated upon the importance of organizing such programs in the College and taking them out to the wider community covering remote areas and the adjoining catchment areas of North Kashmir.
She expressed her resolve and commitment to make such awareness programs an important part of the college activities. She also urged upon the audience to spread the awareness about National Cancer Control program and the facilities provided under the Ayushman Bharat SEHAT scheme wherein the health of the people is being given the top priority.
The principal also stressed the need of observing tobacco control by proper implementation of COTPA regarding enforcement of tobacco laws.
