World anti Rabies Day: Community Medicine Deptt GMC Doda hold awareness program

DODA: Department of Community Medicine Government Medical Colle Doda marked the observance of World anti Rabies Day with this year’s theme: ‘Rabies: Facts, Not Fear’ to achieve the WHO goal of Zero rabies deaths by 2030.
The programme was attended by Principal, GMC, Dr. Noor Ali; Administrative Officer, GMC, Joni Kumar; HOD, Department of Community Medicine, Dr Suresh K Kotwal; Incharge Anti-Rabies section, Dr Imran Zaffer and other staff members of Department of Community Medicine alongwith paramedical students.
Through lectures, charts, posters and Audio-visual presentation, the paramedical students, general masses, patients, their care-takers, attendants and staff of OPD were made aware of rabies, the ways to prevent the disease and steps needed to be followed after animal-bite exposure.
Since the establishment of the Anti-Rabies Section on 03-07-2021, all services regarding management of animal bite cases are being provided to patients. Vaccine and serum are being administered to the patients free of cost. Earlier animal bite cases were referred to Jammu. With the establishment of a second anti-rabies section in the Jammu division in GMC Doda, patients can directly access the treatment in their vicinity.
Besides the programme at GMC Doda, similar programmes were also organized at UHTC Ghat and RHTC Bhalla. Moreover, the Department of Community Medicine also organized a general awareness cum Non-Communicable Diseases screening medical camp at village Arnora, Ghat.
