KU’s Bioresources Department organises 1-day workshop on scientific literature

Srinagar: The Department of Bioresources University of Kashmir on Friday organized a workshop on scientific literature.
The day-long workshop was organised under the project MANAV (Human Atlas) sponsored by DBT Government of India in collaboration with IISER Pune, NCCS-Pune and Persistent Systems.
The main objective of the workshop was to impart skills and knowledge among budding researchers and faculty members about the reading and referencing the scientific literature to publish quality papers in reputed peer-reviewed journals with high impact.
Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir inaugurated the workshop, which was attended by 300 research scholars and faculty members from various institutions across the country and abroad. In his presidential address, Dr Mir said it’s imperative to keep updating research scholars and teachers in the 21st century about the recent trends and advancements in technology. He appreciated the efforts of the Bioresources Department in conducting such workshops since the COVID19 pandemic began. He said that the university will keep on encouraging the Departments/Centers to organize such workshops for the benefit of scholars and teaching faculty to improve their overall quality of research.
Dr Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Coordinator/Head, Department of Bioresources and organizing secretary of the workshop welcomed and thanked the participants and gave a detailed outline about the genesis and theme of the workshop. He deliberated upon the ‘MANAV: The Human Atlas’ initiative by DBT Govt of India which aims to construct a comprehensive map of the entire human body which will explicitly document macro to micro level information. The technical sessions were led by Dr Anupama Harshal, Consultant, Science Communication and Public Engagement IISER-PUNE. She introduced MANAV: The Human Atlas Initiative and gave a detailed presentation on how to read and cite the scientific literature and the various tools related to it.
Sheikh Tajamul delivered a vote of thanks. He thanked all the participants who had joined from various institutes like NCS, IISER, IITs, Central University of Kashmir/Jammu, SHAUTS, SKUAST-K/J, IUST, AMU, Cluster Universities of Jammu/Srinagar, SKIMS, GMC, BGSBU, NITs, ICSSR (New Delhi).
