Handwara residents protest against drinking water shortage

Handwara: The residents of a Handwara village staged a protest against the shortage of drinking water in their area.
Scores of people, men, women and children of Braripora village of Handwara took into the streets on Tuesday and staged a protest against the shortage of potable drinking water supply in their area.
Protesting people shouting slogans against the Jal Shakti department alleged that their village is facing acute shortage of portable drinking supply from months and the Jal Shakti department is not paying any attention to redress the problem of people.
Gulam Qadir a protester said that there is a single pipeline for the two villages Kulangam and Braripora, from past several months the water is not going to Braripora village because it is on some height and the water is going to Kulangam, last time we request department to install a wall on the pipeline and give us water in shifts, but no result. Few days back the ADC Handwara sanctioned 1.50 lakh rupees for the repair of our damaged pipes for its wall but the department still has not started the work, with the result we took into the streets and staged a protest.
Protesting people threatened that they will wait for one more week after that. We will again hit the streets and the concerned department will be responsible.
