SKUAST–K organises interactive programme with beekeepers of Gurez

SRINAGAR: SKUAST, Kashmir organized an interactive programme with beekeepers of Gurez valley Bandipora at its Mountain Agricultural Research and Extension Station (MARES), Izmarg, Gurez valley.
The programme was organized by Research and Training Centre for Pollinators, Pollinizers and Pollination Management (RTCPPPM) SKUAST- K, Shalimar under the National Bee Keeping and Honey Mission Sponsored project entitled “ Potential of research studies of bee keeping under low temperature conditions of Gurez Bandipora Kashmir”.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. J.P Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K and Prof. Sarfaraz A. Wani, Director Research, Prof. Arshid Mughal (ADR), Prof. M.A. Parray (I/c RTCPPPM), Dr. Bilal Ahmad (I/c MARES, Gurez), Dr. S.A Ganie(Asstt. Prof. RTCPPM), other Scientists and a large number of beekeepers of Izmarg area attended the programme.
Dr. J.P Sharma Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Shalimar in his inaugural speech to the participants of the programme stressed upon the importance and rearing of honeybees for honey production, pollination and establishment of apiary units for employment generation for economic upliftment of the unemployed youth of the area. The research and development needs of beekeeping were discussed and feedback was collected from the beekeepers for development of the bee keeping in the entire Gurez Valley.
