Bear kills sheep in Kupwara village

Baramulla: A flock of sheep was attacked by ablack bear leaving about six killed in Moshinar village of Kralgund Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Thursday night.
Locals said that a black bear entered into the cowshed of Mohammad Yaseen Khan in Moshinar village Thursday night and attacked his flock of sheep. In the attack the bear killed a half dozen sheep and goats before the family woke up and chased the beast.
On Friday morning a team from the wildlife department also visited the spot and took stock of the situation.
A senior officer of the department said that they will install a cage in the area and will catch the beast soon. However he appealed to local people living close to forest areas and orchards to be vigilant because a large number of wild animals including bears and leopards are coming towards residential areas in search of food in the evening.
The officer appealed to people not to venture outside unnecessarily during night hours and use a proper lighting system when needs to go one to another place.
