Administration taking concrete steps for engaging youth in sports activities: DDC Anantnag

ANANTNAG: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Anantnag, Dr. Piyush Singla Friday inaugurated district level inter-zonal boys U-17 cricket tournament at Sports Stadium Nanil Mattan, here. In the inaugural match, teams from Mattan and Vailoo Zones competed with each other.
On the occasion, the DDC said that sports activities are vital for shaping the overall personality and well being of individuals, particularly the youngsters. He said the administration is taking many concrete steps for engaging youth of the district in sports and other constructive activities.
Appreciating the efforts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, he said that such events shall continue with full momentum across the district.
The tournament is being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at two venues viz Nanil and Zablipora and teams from all zones of the district are participating in the event.
Later, in presence of Chairman Humanity Welfare Organisation Helpline (HWOH), Javid Ahmad Tak, the DDC handed over a self-employment unit to one specially abled person. The unit was donated by the Helpline NGO under its Mission Livelihood for Persons with Disabilities programme which is aimed to empower the specially abled persons financially by providing livelihood generating opportunities to them.
In addition to this, Dr. Singla also handed over a smart phone to a class 8th student whose parents are living with special abilities for supporting her education through online mode.
The DDC hailed the efforts of the NGO and expressed hope that it would continue to work with the same commitment for empowerment and welfare of specially abled persons.
