Man killed, thrown in river Jhelum at Baramulla, says family; hold protest

BARAMULLA: A man was allegedly killed and his body thrown into the river Jhelum by some sand mafia’s in Khawajabagh area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday night.
According to family, Bilal Ahmad Pandit 45 a resident of Khawajabagh Baramulla was extracting sand from river on Friday late evening but could not return back to home
Adding that a sand mafia operating from Chakla village on the other side of the river, allegedly killed Bilal Ahmad and his body was later thrown into river Jhelum.
The family locals Saturday took to the streets and staged a protest against the killers. They alleged that they are very sure that Bilal was killed by sand mafia’s because they are not allowing anyone to extract sand from the river.
Following the incident, teams of police, SDRF and Indian navy launched a joint search operation in the river to fish out the missing man, however his body is still untraced.
A senior police officer said that they registered a missing report and after family version they launched a search of the person in the river and in other places, and further investigation is going on.
