Wildlife teams launch search for leopard, two cubs in Pampore

Pampore: A massive manhunt has been launched by officials of Wildlife Department at Meej Pampore area of Pulwama district for capturing a leopard and her cubs.
The officials of Range Office Khrew told Kashmir Reader that the search operation for tracing and capturing the wild animals, which has been going on for the past four-five days, was intensified on Monday.
” More staff has been deputed to the Meej area and one more cage has been installed,” a Wildlife official, Khurshid Ahmad told Kashmir Reader.
He added that the staff is camping in the area for round the clock surveillance.
” Our staff has spotted two cubs but we suspect that they might have ventured into the wetland, which spreads over a wide area,” he said, adding that they are working their best to capture the wild animals.
He advised people of the area to cooperate with them and follow the already issued advisory.
” Residents are requested to stay inside their houses during early and evening hours, don’t tend their fields alone and don’t resort to hooting,” he said.
He said that they will stay in the area till it is cleared from the leopard and her cubs.
Officials told Kashmir Reader that five day ago they received information from locals of Meej that a leopard and two cubs had been spotted roaming in the area following which they sent their teams to capture it.
He said that their surveillance team spotted two cubs in the Meej area and two cages have also been installed in the area.
