Agri Dept working on enhancing water use efficiency at farm level : Chowdhary Iqbal

Srinagar: Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today visited Intensive Vegetable Cluster Saderbal Palhalan Pattan to monitor the pace of installation of micro drip irrigation system.
Director Agriculture was accompanied by Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Farooq Ahmad Shah, Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer Pattan Mohammad Ali Lone, Sarpanch Sadrabal Shahnawaz Ahmad, representatives of PRIs and other officers and officials of the Department.
Director Agriculture while interacting with a group of progressive farmers highlighted various important features of drip irrigation system. He said the drip irrigation system is a type of micro irrigation system that has the potential to save water and nutrients. Chowdhary Iqbal said that drip irrigation focuses on enhancing water use efficiency at farm level.
Chowdhary Iqbal stressed upon the officers to mobilize the field functionaries of their district to educate the farmers regarding the drip irrigation system and other farm friendly schemes. Iqbal asked the officers to adopt modern technologies in vegetable production as nature has bestowed this region with one of the most suitable agro climatic condition for vegetable and other crop cultivation. He further added that special strategies are needed to be devised to explore these conditions and get maximum returns out of it.
Farmers and representatives of PRIs appreciated the role of Department in educating and providing micro irrigation system facilities at their village and raised few demands regarding promotion of vegetable sector.
After giving the patient hearing, Director assured them that the Department will redress their all genuine demands on priority, and he informed them that Government of India has also initiated various farmer friendly schemes for upliftment of farming community which the Department is implementing these schemes at all levels.
