Srinagar: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested six drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Anantnag, Police party from Police Post Janglat Mandi at a checkpoint established near Bilal crossing intercepted two persons riding a motorcycle identified as Kowsar Ahmad Khanday son of Mohd Abdullah Khanday resident of Vessu Qazigund and Bilal Ahmad Naikoo son of Nazir Ahmad Naikoo resident of Cheni Chowk Anantnag. During checking, officers were able to recover 7160 capsules of banned drugs from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS where they remain in the custody. Officers have also seized the motorcycle involved in the commission of crime.
In Kulgam, Police party from Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established near Alstop on NHW intercepted a vehicle (Xylo) bearing registration number JK14B-6054 driven by one person identified as Mohd Rafiq Barger son of Din Mohammad Barger resident of Lowermunda. During checking, officers were able to recover 12kgs of Poppy Straw and 700 grams of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody. Vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized.
Meanwhile acting on specific information, officers from Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Choimulla Qazigund intercepted a vehicle (Oil Tanker) with two persons on board. They have been identified as Sahab Singh @Rishpal Singh son of Lakhwinder Singh resident of Bhagwant Nagar Tehsil Sura, UP and Shanid Gull son of Gull Mohd Bhat resident of Panzath. During checking officers were able to recover 02kgs of Poppy from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
In Ganderbal, officers from Police Station Ganderbal at a checkpoint established at Banday Bagh near Husnush chinar point intercepted one suspicious person identified as Mohammad Shahid Gurra son of Mohammed Shafi resident of Banday Bagh, Ganderbal. During checking, officers were able to recover 100gms of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations and further investigations have been initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
