Regional Research Station on Yak to come at KVK Zanskar

SRINAGAR: GoI Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Kailash Chaudhary, during his visit to KVK Kargil-II on Sunday announced establishment of Regional Research Station on Yak in Ladakh.
The Minister informed about the various centrally sponsored schemes like PM- Kisan scheme, Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojna (PKVY), National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA), Pradhan Mantri Krishisinchai Yojna (PMKY), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY), Farmer Producer Organization (FPO), and Soil Health Card Scheme. He advised the scientists & officers of the Agriculture Department to create large scale awareness about these schemes and make sure that the tribal farming community of Ladakh is fully benefited by them. He also announced the establishment of Regional Research Station on Yak in Ladakh in near future. During his field visit the scientists were asked to develop location specific technologies for efficient water harvesting throughout the season from all available sources, to develop demonstration units at the station and to popularise apiculture farming in the region.
He was accompanied by JamyangTseringNamgyal MP Ladakh, Councilors of LAHDC Kargil and other officers of civil & police administration. He was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival at the station where he was briefed by the Programme Co-ordinator KVK Kargil-II about the major activities and outreach of the Kendra in Zanskar and Suru valley of Kargil.
The Programme Co-ordinator apprised the visiting diginatory about the whole hearted support and guidance being provided by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. J.P.Sharma and Director ExtensionProf. D.M.Makhdomi, SKUAST-K for the welfare of tribal farming communities. The minister lauded the efforts of the Kendra in popularizing the high yielding varieties in the region.He commended the KVK scientists and farmers of Lungnak area for the first ever export of fresh farm produce (Pea) from Zanskar to outside market during last year. The visit concluded with the distribution of agriculture inputs under TSP scheme to thefarmersand inauguration of recently installed Hydroponic machine at the station by the Minister.
