Police arrests 2 drug peddlers in Kulgam along with contraband

SRINAGAR: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and recovered a huge quantity of contraband substance from their possession.
Officers from Police Station Kulgam at a checkpoint established at Okey intercepted a vehicle (Alto car) bearing registration number JK18-9565 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Shahid Ahmad Zargar son of Bashir Ahmad Zargar & Rafiq Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Gaffar Bhat both residents of Okey Kulgam. During checking, officers recover one Quintal of Poppy Straw from the said vehicle. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
During preliminary questioning, they revealed the involvement of another person identified as Mohd Ishaq Sheikh son of Mohd Ramzan Sheikh resident of Okey Kulgam. During the course of investigation, Officers raided the residential house of Mohd Ishaq Sheikh at Okay and recovered two grinding machines, one digital weighing machine and one genset from the said house. However, the accused is at large and efforts are on to effect his arrest.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 152/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Kulgam and investigation has been taken up.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free
