Aerial firing by CRPF in Sopore spurs panic

BARAMULLA: A panic was gripped in Sopore town of north Kashmir, after a forces party fired several aerial shots near Armpora area on Wednesday afternoon. Local people said that a joint party of CRPF and police took positions near Arampora Sopore and they fired several bullets in air, due to which shopkeepers and people present in the area, including people in their fields ran towards the safer places, however later the situation returned to normal.
Later Sopore police issued a statement in which they said that a suspected movement was observed near the CRPF camp Armpora and they fired some aerial shots, police also requested the general public that the situation is normal.
The statement said that on 23 June 2021, at about 13:15 hours some suspected movement was observed near the naka point adjacent to Arampora Sopore CRPF camp. Some aerial shots were fired. It’s requested that the general public situation is normal and there is no need to panic.
On June 12, militants fired upon a police party in the same area, in which two policemen and two civilians were killed while an officer among two police men were injured.
Later, on June 21, three militants including a non local and a top LET commander Mudasar Pandit were killed by the government forces in Gund Brath area of Sopore outskirts in a night long gunfight and police claimed that all were involved in Armpora attack.
