‘Man-eater’ leopard trapped in Budgam

Budgam: The leopard that mauled to death a 4-year-old girl at Housing Colony Ompora early this month, has been caught alive by wildlife team close to the DC office complex in Budgam district on Tuesday morning.
Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Block officer from the Wildlife Control Chadoora told the Kashmir Reader that the leopard that had killed the child was caught alive by the wildlife department along with forest protect force, forest department and Police in close proximity to the DC office complex at dawn today.
“After the incident took place in the housing colony the wildlife department along with other allied functionaries had started to track the animal and after 11 days in pursuit of the animal they succeeded,” Bhat said.
He said that the leopard has been sent to Dachigam National Park, where it will remain under control of the wildlife department in the rescue room.
“We have collected his pug marks and the blood samples, to know whether his blood has been mixed with human blood, ” He said.
He added that the leopard has been declared the man eater and it cannot be released in an open forest and for the safety of the people, the Leopard will remain in the rescue room which is under control by the wildlife department in the Dachigam national park.
Few days back one leopard and two leopard cubs were caught alive by the wildlife department at Khudpora village of Khansahib tehsil and Poonch Gund village of the Beerwah tehsil of Budgam district.
