Rain, hailstorm wreaks havoc in north Kashmir, damage vegetable, fruits

BARAMULLA: Heavy rains, wind, hailstorm caused havoc in several parts of Handwara and Baramulla on Tuesday afternoon resulting in the damage of standing crops of vegetables and apple orchards.
Eyewitness said that, heavy rains, accompanied with wind and hailstorm started in several areas of Baramulla and Handwara including in Rafiabad, Qaziabad, Rajwar, Ramhal and upper belt of Rafiabad and Handwara on Tuesday afternoon and continue for twenty minutes causing heavy damage to apple orchards, standing crops, vegetables and other.
They said not only it damaged crops and vegetables, rooftops of several houses were also damaged in the areas, the people were seen run towards the safer places in Baramulla market, several electric poles and giant trees fell down into the ground due to which electric supply got disrupted ,which was later restored in maximum areas. The locals appealed to the current government to compensate the farmers and apple growers who lost their crops.
