Principal Secretary AP&FWD inaugurated organic vegetable sales outlet at Lalmandi Srinagar

Work in common direction to achieve farmers welfare: Navin Chowdhary

Srinagar: Navin Kumar Chowdhary (IAS) Principal Secretary AP&FWD in presence of Vice Chancellor SKUAST Prof. J. P. Sharma Monday inaugurated organic vegetable sales outlet Agriculture Complex at Lalmandi Srinagar. After inaugurating the event, Principal Secretary and VC visited different stalls of Organic vegetables and other produce from the allied sectors. Principal Secretary interacted with the organic farmers from different districts of the valley and took their feedback regarding their success stories.
While speaking on the occasion Navin Chowdhary said that the SKUAST, department of agriculture, JKHPMC and other allied departments must work in a common direction in order to achieve the goal of doubling the farmers income by the year 2022 and make the farmers welfare a real imagination.
He highlighted the importance of a multi-dimensional and vibrant marketing strategy so that the farmers could get remunerative returns for their labour and efforts. He added that such organic markets should be opened at all districts and promoted in an accessible manner.
While expressing his views Vice Chancellor SKUAST…. said the university will provide all the essential support to the line departments in every effort they are making for the prosperity of the farming community, he said the SKUAST is working in close coordination with the Department of Agriculture and allied departments.
Earlier Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal gave a detailed presentation of various activities that are being carried out by the department in the promotion of organic cultivation in the valley.
On the sidelines of the function different farmers were awarded with the certificate of appreciation for their outstanding performance in the field of organic agriculture.
On the other end of the function MD JKHPMC Shafat Sultan expressed his views and presented a three prong strategy which the corporation has adopted for the overall welfare of the farming community.
Besides others the program was attended by Director Horticulture Kashmir Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Director Sericulture Kashmir Manzoor Ahmad Qaudri, Joint Directors of the Agriculture Department, Chief Agriculture Officers, senior officers of the Department and Progressive Organic Vegetable Growers of the valley.
