Director Agriculture along with MD JKHPMC visits vegetable clusters of district Budgam

Srinagar: A joint team of Agriculture Production & Farmer’s Welfare Department and Horticulture Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (JKHPMC) Ltd led by Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal who was accompanied by MD JKHPMC Shafat Sultan today visited high potential vegetable areas of sub division Chadoora district Budgam.
While expressing his views, Director Agriculture said, today’s visit is in the backdrop of a joint venture of Department of Agriculture and JKHPMC to ensure marketing facilities to the vegetable growers so that their produce could reach the market timely and hassle free and their economic interests could be safeguarded.
“Pertinently to provide vegetable growers and other farmers with marketing facilities for their produce there is already a memorandum of understanding between the Agriculture Production & Farmer’s Welfare Department and J&K Horticulture Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (JKHPMC) Ltd.”.
While talking to different farmers Chowdhary appreciated their efforts in such hard times. He said amid the prevailing pandemic scenario and lock downs farmers may face some difficulties to bring their produce to market but the Department along with JKHPMC is committed to put in all the mandatory efforts so that the farmer’s interests are served.
Chowdhary impressed upon the farmers to go for more diversification in terms of organic and exotic vegetable cultivation, as it fetches them more income and is more remunerative. He also exhorted the concerned officers to organize training programs for the progressive vegetable farmers so that they could practice latest interventions during the cultivation of different crops.
While interacting with the farmers MD JKHPMC Shafat Sultan said that the corporation has already strategized a comprehensive plan for the marketing of organic, exotic vegetables and other agriculture produce in and outside of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir so that the farmers could earn maximum possible returns for their labour.
Director Agriculture was accompanied by Joint Director Agriculture Extension Mohammad Qasim Gani, Deputy Director Law Enforcement Mohammad Younis Chowdhary and other senior officers of the Department.
