Sehrai’s sons arrested for ‘anti-national’ slogans, taken to Kupwara

SRINAGAR: Nearly two weeks since the death in custody of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Muhammad Sehrai, his two sons were picked up by police from their residence here on Sunday morning.
The duo — Mujahid and Rashid — were taken from their Barzulla residence to Kupwara. Police have registered a case against the mourners at Sehrai’s funeral during which slogans were raised. Sehrai’s sons have been most likely charged in the same case.
On May 5, Sehrai died at a Jammu hospital where he was taken from Kot Bhalwal Jail. He was arrested last year under Public Safety Act almost two months after his son was killed during an encounter in Srinagar.
With the arrest of his sons, Sehrai has only two children at home out of five.
Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tweeted that both his sons have been booked under PSA (Public Safety Act). Police in response said they were not.
Kashmir Zone Police wrote on its Twitter handle, “Both sons of Late Sehrai & 4 others have been arrested for raising antinational slogans during funeral. But, they haven’t been booked under PSA. Plz don’t spread rumours.”
