Leopard carcass found in an abandoned water tank in Shopian

Shopian: A decomposed carcass of a young leopard was recovered from a defunct water tank in Killora orchards on Sunday noon by the officials of wildlife control room wing wildlife division Shopian.
It was destroyed by the employees, since the body was decomposed and not in a condition to carry post mortem .
Gulzar Ahmed Khan, technical officer wildlife told Kashmir Reader that they received information about the carcass after which a team was sent to the spot to recover the body and destroy it.
“It was a defunct water tank, not in use for a decade. We sent a team who recovered and destroyed it while maintaining all the Covid-19 SOPs,” he said.
He said that the evidence from the spot, suggests that the animal had fallen into the tank and despite attempts to come out of it had failed and it dying of starvation.
