IED detected, defused in Shopian

Shopian: A low intensity improvised explosive device was neutralized by the government forces after it was found on the roadside at Turkwangam village of Shopian, police said.
The device, according to police, was found in the area around 11 am and was neutralized by the bomb disposal squad. However, a police official said that it was triggered near the army’s Casper vehicle and caused no damage to the bomb proof vehicle nor any loss of life or property.
News 18 has quoted senior superintendent of police Shopian, Amrit Pal Singh saying that The IED was “detected and neutralised between Sugan and Turkhwangam (areas in Shopian) by alert security forces”, he said. “Police and the Army were aware of likely attempts.”
Locals said that the sound of a huge blast was heard in the area which panicked the locals and forced them to rush for safety as many of them were spraying or working in their orchards.
