Several departments in Uri headless, people suffer

Baramulla: Around a dozen government offices in border town Uri are completely headless, resulting in the people of this far flung area are facing inconvenience.
Locals said that the chair of sub divisional magistrate (SDM) is vacant from the past over two-week after SDM Riyaz Ahmad was transferred. They said the scores of files of different departments and for public works are waiting for approval of SDM.
Similarly, the post of Tehsildar Uri is vacant for several months, treasury officer Uri, ZEO office Zola and Uri are waiting for officers for months now and the government seems to take no serious steps to redress the problems of locals.
They said besides these offices there are around two dozen government run schools including some high schools headless and only incharge caretakers running these institutions.
The people said that, Uri is a very far flung area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and most of the villages are very close to the Line of Control or some villages are out of the border fence, the people are coming from these villages to Uri for the redressal of their problems but returning helpless due to the shortage of senior officers in the division.
People appealed authorities at the helm to immediately fill the vacant posts so that people could not suffer.
