Light rain in parts of Valley

Srinagar: A few parts of Kashmir received light rain on Wednesday after weatherman predicted “erratic weather” across J&K till this weekend.

Many parts of Kashmir in the afternoon received light rainfall with Srinagar recording 0.6 mm of rainfall till evening, as per the officials. Pahalgam received major rainfall of about 15.4 mm along with Kokernag at 1.4 mm and Gulmarg recording 2.0 mm of rainfall till Wednesday evening.

In Jammu, they said, Jammu received 0.6 mm of rainfall while Banihal recorded 0.8 mm of rainfall.

Earlier, the Meteorological Centre (MeT) had predicted light rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir till Sunday. Besides, the MeT had issued a “Yellow warning” during this period signifying the possibility of isolated lightning, thunderstorm with gusty winds.

The erratic weather conditions are likely to continue across J&K.

“The intensity of precipitation which was seen today will end tomorrow evening. There will be a gradual decrease in precipitation leaving it restricted to slight rains over the next few days till Sunday. People will feel visible improvement in weather from Friday but the afternoon will continue to leave drizzles of rain in isolated places,” Deputy Director MeT Dr Mukhtar Ahmad told Kashmir Reader.

Meanwhile, vehicular traffic on the Srinagar to Jammu National Highway will ply from both sides today. Traffic police authorities said that subjected to fair weather and better road condition, Light Motor Vehicles(LMV’s) shall be allowed from both sides of highway viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa on Thursday.

For Light Motor Vehicles(LMV’s), authorities said that the vehicles shall be allowed from Nagrota(Jammu) between 7 AM in the morning till 12 PM and subsequently from Jakheni(Udhampur) between 8 AM to 1 PM towards Srinagar. Kashmir, Zig(Qazigund) between 7 AM to 11 PM adding that no vehicle shall be allowed before and after this time-slot.

For High Motor Vehicles(HMV’s), “Vehicles shall be allowed from Jakheni(Udhampur) towards Srinagar from 2 PM to 1 AM in the night”, it said.
