Altaf’s wife Tasleema Begum, according to police investigations, revealed that she along with her associate Ghulam Mohammad murdered her husband after finalising the plan on March 8. After killing him, the duo shifted the body and threw it near cowshed to conceal the manner of death and camouflage it as death due to slipping, it said. “Both the accused have been arrested, weapon of offence recovered on their disclosure, further investigation is in progress,” police added.
On March 22, the brother of the deceased submitted an application with the police for an investigation into the death.
Accordingly as per formal orders of district magistrate Baramulla, the body was exhumed and postmortem was conducted at Government Medical College Baramulla. “After the receipt of interim medical report and the statements of some prime witnesses the inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC were converted into FIR vide number 62/2021 under section 302 IPC at police station Pattan,” police said, adding that SIT led by SDPO Pattan was set up for the probe.
During the course of investigations both technical and human intelligence was used and the wife of the deceased Tasleema Begum was called for questioning and confessed the crime. She revealed the entire plan and admitted murdering her husband by taking help of Ghulam Mohammad Dar son of Mohammad Ramzan Dar of Renji. “The duo had hatched a conspiracy to kill the deceased a month before the occurrence as they were in an illegitimate relationship,” police said.
