Power supply hit in Pampore locality as electric transformer damaged by fire

PAMPORE: A 250 KV electric transformer was damaged at Tulbagh locality of Saffron town Pampore in district after it caught fire on Saturday evening.
Panic gripped the area of Pampore after a transformer caught fire due to a short circuit on a high tension line.
Soon after the incident locals rushed to the spot and informed the Department of Fire and Emergency Services Station Pampore.
The fire fighters along with tenders immediately rushed to the spot and started operation to douse the flames.
The damage in the transformer resulted in power blackout to around 60 households, locals told Kashmir Reader.
A local resident Mehraj Ud Din Bhat told Kashmir Reader that it was around 8: 10 pm on Saturday evening they noticed fire in the transformer at Tulbagh.
” Within 10 minutes the fire damaged the transformer and all wires,” he said, adding that it was a miracle that a conductor of 1,32000 KV capacity passing above the transformer and supplying to the grid station didn’t snap due to heat.
” Had the conductor melted then it would have caused huge damage to this congested locality,” he said.
Another resident Farooq Ahmad Sofi told Kashmir Reader that the transformer was installed on a wooden platform created some 36 years ago in the area.
“The wooden platform and supporting wooden poles all suffered damages due to the fire,” he said, requesting district administration and PDD authorities for providing them a new transformer with iron tubular poles.
The residents asked authorities for restoring electricity to the locality.
The concerned officials of the power development department including JE also visited the spot and took the damaged transformer and assured the people of the area that they will try their best to replace the damaged transformer with a new one by tomorrow.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Power development department Pampore, Javaid Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that the 250 KV transformer caught fire due to fault in the High Tension (HT) line.
” They will be provided with a new transformer within a few days,” he said.
