Police arrests 5 drug peddlers in Anantnag and Kulgam, contraband, cash recovered

SRINAGAR: Police in a series of actions against drug dealings have arrested five drug peddlers in Anantnag & Kulgam. Contraband substance, illicit liquor and cash recovered from their possession.
In Anantnag, officers at a checkpoint established at Khanbal intercepted a person identified as Nisar Ahmad Mandoo resident of Batpora Khanbal. During search, officers were able to recover 11 grams of Heroin from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.
In this regard, case FIR No. 68/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Anantnag and further investigation is in progress.
In another action, Police party from PS Srigufwara at a checkpoint established at Sakras crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03E-6516 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Shamus ul Din Ganie and Gulzar Ahmad Hajam both residents of Kanelwan Bijbehara. During the search, officers recovered 22 kgs of Poppy Straw from the said vehicle.
They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
A Case FIR Number 23/2021 under relevant sections of the law stands registered in Police Station Srigufwara in this regard and investigation have been initiated.
Similarly in Kulgam, officers at a checkpoint established at Laroo Crossing intercepted two individuals riding a scooty bearing registration number JK18A-9836. They have been identified as Rameez Ahmad [email protected] resident of Ganie Mohallah Kulgam & Yasir Ahmad Shah resident of Laroo. During checking officers were able to recover 700 grams of Charas, 05 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 02 bottles of illicit liquor and a cash amount of Rs s3900 from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
A case vide FIR No. 49/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation has been initiated.
Vehicles used in the commission of crimes have also been seized.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
