Sonamarg: Driver of Border Roads Organization (BRO) was killed on Wednesday evening after he came under Snow Avalanche at Zojila Pass on Srinagar-leh Highway officials said.
Officials said that the BRO driver identified as 50year old Ghulam Rasool Bhat a resident of Gaganigar Sonamarg was standing near his Tipper when the avalanche struck and swept down Bhat at Abe Maath Zojilla resulting in Spot death of the BRO driver Bhat. They said Bhat cleared the snow in the area..
As soon as the other labourers and officers of BRO who were present there started a massive rescue operation and with the help of police they took the dead body out from the avalanche and took it to SDH Kangan for medico legal formalities.
Meaning the Srinagar Leh Highway is closed for vehicular traffic due to accumulation of snow and threat of snow avalanches.
