SKUAST-K, Division of Agronomy, FOA Wadura celebrates World Met Day

Wadura: Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture Wadura celebrated the World Meteorological Day in memory of the Convention establishing the World Meteorological Organization on this date in 1950. This year the theme was “The Ocean, Our Climate and Weather”.
The Met day was celebrated in collaboration with Association of Agro-meteorologists-Kashmir Chapter.The welcome address was given by Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Secretary AAM, Kashmir Chapter. She briefed the audience about the weather vagaries and climate change. She also informed the house about the day also being the starting day of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
In this decade efforts will be made to study ocean science through innovative and transformative ideas as the basis of information to support sustainable development as there exists a link between ocean climate and weather. The chief guest of the occasion, Dr. Vyas Pandey, President AAM-Anand, gave the lead lecture on the theme. Prof. A. H. Hakeem, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture emphasized on importance of study of crop weather relationships and strategies for mitigation of extreme weather events on crops.
Students namely Sabah Parvaze, Afshana Bano, Sania Aijaz and Syed Inam-ul-Haq of the Faculty of Agriculture presented their views about the role of ocean on weather and climate. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Bashir Ahmad Khanday, President Kashmir chapter of AAM, Dr. J. D. Jadhav,Vice-President-AAM, heads of the divisions of SKUAST-K, Life Members of AAM-Kashmir Chapter, scientists of the University and students of the faculty. Announcement of winners of online quiz, slogan and photography competition held on the theme was also done.Vote of the thanks was presented by Prof. Azmat Aalam Khan, Associate Director Research, SKUAST-K.
