3 shops perish in Pampore fire, property worth lakhs destroyed

PAMPORE: Three shops were gutted in a major fire that broke out in Saffron town Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The fire broke out during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday at Kadlabal Pampore. As per locals, three shops were owned by Showkat Ahmad Bhat, Bilal Ahmad Rather and Ishtiyaq Ahmad.
They told Kashmir Reader that the incident took place at around 1.00 am in the busy market Kadlabal Pampore.
The burnt properties include a crockery store, a hardware shop, a photographer shop. Properties worth several lakhs were damaged in the major fire.
On getting information, a police team from police station Pampore rushed to the spot and informed the department of Fire and Emergency Services Station Pampore.
Fire fighters along with tenders immediately reached the spot and doused the flames, but till then the shops were completely damaged in the ablaze, locals said.
Two fire fighting vehicles from fire station Pampore and a one fire tenders from the Kakapora Fire and Emergency Services battled the blaze and doused the flames, officials told Kashmir Reader.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a short-circuit, officials said.
Police have taken cognizance of the matter.
Fire service officer Pampore Abdul Hai told Kashmir Reader that at five past one on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday an emergency call was received and reacted quickly with men and machinery.
“ The fire had broken out in Kadlabal Chowk in which three shops were involved. The shops included a crockery shop, photo copy shop and a paint services shop,” he said, adding that the paint services shop was in flames and the department immediately called fire tenders from Kakapora to assist in fire extinguishing.
He told Kashmir Reader that with the grace of Almighty they were able to put down fire before causing further damage.
He requested shopkeepers in the Saffron town Pampore to cut off the electric supplies by pulling down the MCBs and check the cooking gas at the time of departure.
