KATRA: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today inaugurated Katra Premier League 2021, T-20 cricket tournament at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Stadium here on Saturday.
The tournament is being organised by Katra Sports Club and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board jointly.
The Advisor formally inaugurated the tournament by flipping the coin. The inaugural match was played between Vishal Cricket Club Jammu and Masood Cricket Club Bhaderwah.
40 teams will compete for the top prize of Rs 2 lakh in the tournament spanning 33 matches. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Sujit Kumar and CEO SMVD Shrine Board, Ramesh Kumar were special guests on the occasion.
Jawans of CRPF, 6th Bn, presented a colourful dance presentation at the inaugural ceremony. In his address, Advisor congratulated the organisers and the participating teams for coming together with a spectacular launch.
He assured government’s support for such events in future also.
Farooq Khan directed Secretary Sports Council to identify new talents across variety of sports and collaborate with SMVD Shrine Board in development and creation of sports infrastructure including indoor stadia and grounds.
The Advisor informed that Jammu & Kashmir is already ahead of various states in terms of new sports infrastructure.
“Further efforts are being made to deliver sports facilities up to Panchayat levels in the UT,” he added.
Advisor also assured financial and moral support in organising similar events regularly.
Those present at the occasion also included Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul; Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Ajay Kumar; SSP Reasi, Rashmi Wazir, elected members of Katra Municipal Council and DYSSO Subhash Chander among others.
The day’s match was won by Masood Cricket Club by 96 runs.
