Rains cause water logging, damage houses in Hajin

Hajin: The inhabitants of Hajin town in northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district expressed strong resentment against the administration for failing to provide a proper drainage system in the area. The feeling came after the four days of consistent rainfall accumulated water on its streets, potholes making movement difficult.
In absence of drainage system, said the aggrieved residents, lanes and bylanes remain submerged due to prolonged rainfall. “It has become difficult for us to venture out even on this auspicious occasion of Shab-e-Mehraj,” Ali Muhammad, a local said.
Many residential houses were also damaged in Khos Mohalllah, Mir Mohallah, Banger Mohalla due to water logging, the locals claimed. “We went from pillar to post to apprise the authorities to construct the drainage system in the area on priority basis but what we get is just fake promises,” he added.
Mehraj-ud-din Mubarak, a local, told Kashmir Reader that he has so many times requested the concerned authorities to construct a proper drainage system in the area so that this problem gets solved.
He said the problem could have been resolved had the construction of the drainage system, started in 2007, completed.
“The water logging wastes our time, makes it difficult for us to venture out,” Ishtiyaq Ahmad, a resident of Mir Mohalla Hajin said.
Deputy Chairman Municipal Committee Hajin Waseem Parray told Kashmir Reader that “water pumps have been sent on priority basis for dewatering purposes and we will try our best to dewater the roads as soon as possible.”
