Driver escapes drowning after his tonga fell into Jhelum at Hajin

Hajin: A tonga driver jumped on time to save himself from drowning after his cart veered along the narrow road at Pend Aab Boon Hajin, with his horse, however, dying after drowning.
The Tonga that was passing through narrow stretch along the Bandipora -Hajan road fell into the river after the driver could not control the cart and it along with his horse fell in the river.
The locals seeing the accident rushed to the spot and somehow managed to save the driver, but their efforts to pull out the horse from the river could not succeed as he was tied to the cart.
The spot according to locals is highly accident prone as no fencing has been done in this portion with two accidents in the past of people falling into the river witnessed at this spot.
Javid Ahmad a local told Kashmir Reader that last month a similar incident took place at this spot and that time cart full of milk cans fell into the river Jhelum the driver was saved but the horse died on spot.
“This spot is accident prone and we urge authorities there is dire need of concrete wall and proper fencing from main market to bridge ,so that such accidents are not repeated,” he said
The locals have urged deputy commissioner Bandipora to look into the matter.
