HC closes PIL on drug de-addiction centres, says satisfied with govt steps

Srinagar: The J&K High Court on Friday closed proceedings in a plea related to drug de-addiction centres in Kashmir, recording that directions passed by the court in the matter have yielded results.
The court of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul while closing the PIL said that the government is on record assuring establishment of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres and also curbing the menace by accelerating all agencies concerned and also evolving a mechanism for general awareness of the public in general and the youngsters in particular.
“We are satisfied with the approach adopted by the Government and other respondents in dealing with the menace,” the Bench said.
However, the Court reiterated that the directions passed from time to time must be implemented by the
respondents, with further direction that the respondents shall ensure establishment of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres and for accelerating the awareness of the effect of the menace amongst the general public.
“In view of above, both the writ petitions (PIL) are disposed of. Registry to place copy of this order on both the petitions,” the court directed.
